Sparks
Last weekend, I started playing around with some scraps. I have had the sparks of an idea trying to catch fire in my mind forever. I'm only moderately sure about where it's going but I'm having fun.
I've also finally started quilting (well, technically, I started quilting it months ago but I only did a small section and then it sat again. For months.) a quilt I started in January. It's been basted and sitting there, waiting for me to just get on with it. Truth is, I've been hesitant and wanting to do a solid job, since it's made of solids so every stitch shows, and because I was really happy with how the top turned out and I didn't want to ruin it. I even languished through a "false start" where I hated the quilting and tore it out. Yesterday, I felt the tug on my quilting sleeve - time to get at it.
Coming along nicely, I think.
Except for that. Nothing I can't handle. :-)

I like the little sparks a lot! Very cute little squares. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you post your screw-ups. It's real life, right?! Ripping out sucks though, especially when the thread gets all crazy like that. Can't wait to see the finished product! Love the little dots of colour in the first photo - I like where that is going!
ReplyDeleteLove those colourful tiny squares amidst the bigger ones and I know exactly what you mean about reluctance to ruin a top you're happy with- the quilting is definitely more daunting then. But so far so good- those snarl ups happen...!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing worse than ripping out FMQ. Loving your squares, and that geometric quilting looks fab!
ReplyDeleteYou were in the quilting mood if 'that' was just an I can handle it blip. Woohoo! Some days 'that' can send me for a total tail spin.
ReplyDeleteExiting blocks, Carly and the bubble quilting looks great!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your idea! I can't wait to see it all together! And your quilting is awesome! OK....the little blip on with the purple thread....yeah...that is so me....so I understand. But when you're done, it's going to be awesome!
ReplyDeleteLooking good Carly! Pebbles are so fun.
ReplyDeleteUntil I read the post I thought it was an embellishment! All in the eye of the beholder, I guess!
ReplyDeleteIt's looking great! I like your sparks too.
ReplyDeleteI love those tiny squares of color int he middle of the block!!
ReplyDeleteGreat sparks! And your free motion is coming along nicely.... We all have those 'moments'... Lol!
ReplyDeleteI am having the same quilting dilemmas and have had a quilt basted and partly quilted twice for months - it's a solids quilt and as you say, every stitch shows! I love your FMQ - perhaps I should rip out what I've done and try FMQ. Gah: Your new project looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteYour little blocks even look like sparks! And your quilting looks lovely...I call those snarls on the backside bobbin barfs...crazy making but as you said completely easy to deal with. Good luck with the rest of your quilting!
ReplyDeleteI love the circle quilting pattern! Those lines always make me think of bubbles.
ReplyDeleteYour circle quilting is lovely!
ReplyDeleteGood for you to be back at it again. Sometimes I don't want to quilt either, but then when you make yourself plow through it, it's a good feeling. It's looking very nice!
ReplyDeleteYour words caught my eye, because they describe what's going on here too: "the sparks of an idea trying to catch fire in my mind forever." Amen, Carly, amen. Only I feel like my brain is only on about half power, so things are going slowly. I should learn not to work into the wee hours--leaves me nothing for the next day!
ReplyDeleteI love the quilting you've shown--the circles the wonky squares. This should be gorgeous!

Can't wait to see what those little blocks turn into. And....you know I love the pebble quilting - it's my favorite pattern I think.
ReplyDeleteI love the wee squares in the blocks...they will look so cool in a quilt. I'm happy you're getting your quilty groove back!
ReplyDeletelove the tiny lil squares in the center, like a peep hole. Very fun to see your quilting.
ReplyDeletelove your little spark blocks, Carly!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love where this is going, Carly! I can't wait to see more. Your pebble quilting reminds me that I need to do more of this FMQ design - it looks so fantastic.
ReplyDeleteHappy stitching!
