Tutorial: Random Piecing

Hello!

I'm over at the Saskatoon Modern Quilt Guild site today with a tutorial on random piecing.  It's more of a guide to a technique that falls between patten-based and improv-based piecing.  I've used it in a number of projects and think it's a great way to ensure your work is unique.  I'd love to know what you think and if you try it out, please let me know!

For the tutorial, just click here and you'll be taken to the SMQG site!  Enjoy!

  2. Carly, your tutorial is so well done and a great explanation. I hope that it's okay if I pin it for future reference. Thanks for sharing!

  4. the trick is, chosing complementary fabrics and keeping a "system" to their placement. Not really as easy to do as it might seem because it can really get out of hand if your 'values' are not carefully placed! A great excercise in learning how colours, hues, values and shades work together or against one another... That orange gives it zing and the printed purple brings the values together. Love it!

  7. Thanks for the great tutorial. I have done improv pieced blocks too for swaps, and I find it much harder than it seemed. I didn't think of strip sets. Your way works so much better.

Who doesn't love comments? I appreciate every single one and try to reply to each. Unless you're a no-reply commenter. Then I can't. And I have a little sad moment. Like a dropped ice cream cone. So if you're a no-reply commenter and have a question, check the comment thread and I'll try to reply there. :-)
